Reconstruction of the boarding school in Tskhinvali
On August 11, 2008 a dedicated bank account was opened to raise money for suffering people in South Ossetia. The raised money was used to provide targeted financial help both for people of South Ossetia and for families of Russian soldiers and officers who died in August 2008 during the military duty.
Financial support was allocated to buy three flats for families of Russian officers who had died during military actions in South Ossetia.
Over 10 tons of humanitarian aid were provided to people in need; financial support was offered to women in South Ossetia who fled Tskhinvali while being pregnant and not long before the birth. Some material support was also allocated to a group of children from South Ossetia for their rest and recovery.
In response to the request from the Government of South Ossetia the Committee took the decision to send the main part of the raised sum for reconstruction of the Tskhinvali boarding school for orphans and children without parental support. 148 children live and study in this school. The buildings of the school have been seriously damaged due to tragic events in August 2008. One of the buildings was reconstructed by the beginning of the new learning year 2009. Two other buildings which had been completely destroyed were reconstructed at the second half of December 2009. The premises were equipped with heating facilities; the sewage system and water supply system were replaced.
