The blessing ceremony for the bells at the Spasskaya Tower was held
On December 11 at 11.00 a.m. the bells at the bell chamber of the Spasskaya Tower at the Kremlin of Moscow were sanctified. Upon the blessing from His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia the consecration ceremony was held by Vyacheslav Shestakov, hegumen of the Patriarch Courtyard of Zaryadye, Moscow.
Heads of “The Spasskaya Tower” International Military and Music Festival and Vladimir Bushuyev, Director of the Foundation of Saint Andrew the First-Called, took part in the holy ceremony.
All of us were a little nervous: the performers, those who had created the bells, and us, those who had organized the ceremony. When the bell sounds were tested at the Voronezh bell-casting factory, it was perfect. But it changes everything at the height of the bell tower with the acoustics of the Spasskaya Tower and the Red Square. However, we should not have worried! When we tried the bells for the first time on the eve of November 4, in the middle of the night, and heard Russia’s Anthem and “Glory to you!” performed by the bells, we were thrilled and hugged each other. At that moment we knew everything would be just fine when President would take part at the celebration events on November 4. I would like to thank the Foundation of Saint Andrew the First-Called and Vladimir Yakunin for the support he provided at the crucial moment and for making this project come true.
Member of the Public Council for “The Spasskaya Tower” International Military and Music Festival
Thanks to the initiative from the Public Council for “The Spasskaya Tower” International Military and Music Festival and with support from the Foundation of Saint Andrew the First-Called twelve new bells were installed at the Spasskaya Tower in October-November 2020.It took specialists from Voronezh half a year to fulfil the order. They worked hard to create the unique sound and it was possible to do it only by hand. The largest bell weighs 850 kg while the smallest one is 36 kg. As a result of new additions, the bell chamber of the Spasskaya Tower contains 23 working bells and can perform “Russia’s Anthem” and “Glory to you!” with one and a half octave scale. Thanks to the improvements, Russia’s Anthem is performed for a minute and a half now. For the first time people could hear the sounds of the renewed bell chamber on November 4, 2020 on The Day of National Unity.
