On April 7 the Foundation of St. Andrew the First-Called will deliver the Holy Fire to Moscow
On the blessing by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, on April 7 2018, just before the Orthodox Easter, the delegation of the Foundation of Saint Andrew the First-Called will bring the Holy Fire from the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Jerusalem to Moscow for the Easter Patriarchal Service held at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. Vladimir Yakunin, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation of Saint Andrew the First-Called, and bishop Irinarchus of Krasnogorsk of the Russian Orthodox Church, vicar of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, will be in charge of the delegation.
The delegation of the Foundation of Saint Andrew the First-Called will traditionally include public figures and state officials, priests, cultural workers, journalists and businessmen. It will comprise about 100 people. The delegation will be represented by Olga Yepifanova, Deputy Chairperson of the State Duma, Anatoly Aksakov, Deputy of the State Duma of the RF, Dmitry Azarov, acting Governor of the Samara region, Archpriest Fyodor Konyukhov, the Russian traveler, Alexander Sokolov, Rector of the Moscow Conservatory, Vladimir Uyba, Head of Federal Medical and Biological Agency, and others.
The delivery of the Holy Fire to the Russian Orthodox Church is carried out by the Foundation of Saint Andrew the First-Called following its programme called “Pray for Peace for Jerusalem”. The annual peace-keeping programme has been implemented since 2003. The prayer for peace in the Holy Land is an essential element of the initiative. The delegation of the Foundation of St. Andrew the First-Called jointly with Patriarch of Jerusalem pray for peace in the Holy Land. The prayer for peace in the Holy Land is also held in churches of the Russian Orthodox Church.
On April 7 on the Holy Saturday members of the delegation will take part in the litany for the Holy Fire held at the Church of the Resurrection of Christ. Millions of viewers of NTV Channel and listeners of “Radio of Russia” in Russia and in near and far-abroad countries will also get a chance to join the unique service held at the Jerusalem Church of the Resurrection of Christ. The Holy Fire will have been delivered to Moscow by a dedicated flight by the beginning of the Easter Patriarchal Service held at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. The Holy Fire will be handed to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
As usual, hundreds of believers are meeting the delegation at Vnukovo airport. Later the Holy Fire is distributed to churches of Moscow, the Moscow region and other Russian regions.
During the Easter Week one can obtain the Fire at the office of the Foundation of Saint Andrew the First-Called located at: 42 Pokrovka St., b.5-5a (from 9.00 to 18.00). Those wishing to get the Holy Fire should bring their oil lamps.
Every year the Holy Fire is delivered to thousands of parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church in Russia, as well as in near and far-abroad countries. In 2018 the Holy Fire is expected to be delivered to Arkhangelsk, Baku, Barnaul, Belgorod, Valaam, Volgograd, Voronezh, Vladivostok, Grozny, Yekaterinburg, Irkutsk, Kazan, Kemerovo, Kostroma, Krasnoyarsk, Kurgan, Kursk, London, Makhachkala, Lipetsk, Magadan, Magas, Murmansk, New-York, Nizhny Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Oryol, Orenburg, Perm, Pskov, Riga, Rostov-on-Don, Ryazan, Samara, Saint-Petersburg, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Saratov, Smolensk, Syktyvkar, Sevastopol, Simferopol, Tallinn, Tambov, Tula, Ulyanovsk, Khabarovsk, Chita, Cheboksary, Yuzhno Sakhalinsk, Yakutsk, Yaroslavl and other towns.
It is also planned to deliver the Holy Fire to Great Britain, Germany, Italy, the US and Estonia.
