International Conference «Russia, Greece, Europe: traditions of cooperation and common historic fate»
November 1, 2016 the International Public and Scientific Conference «Russia, Greece, Europe: traditions of cooperation and common historic fate» will take place at the Pillar Hall of Zappeion Palace in Athens as part of the official programme of the Greek-Russian Bilateral Year under the aegis of IV Greek-Russian Forum of Civil Societies. The conference will be dedicated to 165th anniversary of Grand Duchess Olga Konstantinovna Romanova, the Queen of Hellenes. It will be held under the aegis of IV Greek-Russian Forum of Civil Societies.
When Grand Duchess Olga Konstantinovna became Queen of Greece she devoted her life to strengthening and development of the Russian-Greek relations, diplomatic and humanitarian rapprochement of the two countries.
The International Conference is held by Russian public organizations the Centre of National Glory and the Foundation of St. Andrew the First-Called together with a number of Greek public bodies, with support from the Steering Committee of the Russian-Greek Bilateral Year, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece.
Representatives of state bodies, scientists-historians, political experts, the clergy, representatives of the diplomatic corps, public organizations, mass media from Russia, Greece and other European countries were invited to take part at the Conference.
According to the organizers of the Conference, public- and-political and geopolitical changes that currently take place in the world, with support in the Greek society regarding Russia’s position on many international matters, there appear some new opportunities for implementation of social initiatives related to development of inter-state and inter-cultural interaction between Greece and Russia at the new historical stage. The organizers of the Conference are based on the fact that currently it is Greece that can become the cultural and diplomatic «bridge» between Russia and Europe which is especially important in 2016, the Bilateral Year of Russia and Greece.
Working languages of the Conference: Russian, Greek, English.
Besides on October 31st festive events will be held by the Centre of National Glory and the Foundation of St. Andrew the First-Called in Athens and Piraeus as part of the Charity Programme to commemorate Grand Duchess Olga Konstantinovna, the Queen of Hellenes.
As part of the events a ship of the Black Sea Fleet of Russian Navy will enter the port of Piraeus in Athens. Since XIX century the Mediterranean Base of the Russian Navy was located at Piraeus Port. At the beginning of XX century Olga Konstantinovna opened a hospital for sailors in this famous port.
The events will be finalized at «Megaron» Concert Hall in Athens with a Gala evening — the concert to commemorate Queen Olga. Artists of the State Academic Mariinsky Theatre will take part in the concert.
