Translation of relics of St. Luke

Translation of relics of St. Luke

In summer 2007 with blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Alexis II of Moscow and All Russia the Foundation of St. Andrew the First-Called organized the delivery of the Head of Luke, Apostle and Evangelist, from the Russian Saint Panteleimon Monastery on Mount Athos to Russia and CIS countries.

The sacred thing was translated to Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Kiev, Zaporozhye, Krasnoyarsk, Kemerovo, Barnaul, Volgograd, Elista and Minsk.

The relics of Apostle Luke were heartily welcomed by believers in Siberia where there are much fewer churches than in the central region and there are not so many Christian holy things. For example, in Krasnoyarsk pilgrims arrived from the places located thousands of kilometers away, from Dudinka, Minusinsk and other remote areas of this region of Russia.

In all the towns the free access to the relic was provided for the disabled, pregnant women and parents with little babies. In the churches there were a lot of women as long as the relics of Apostle Luke are kept on Mount Athos where women are not allowed.
