Participation in the educational cycle “George the Conqueror”

The educational cycle "George the Conqueror" was organized in 2008 in  Saint-Petersburg and the Leningrad region with participation of the Interregional public fund "Centre of National Glory" as part of annual commemorative events dedicated to the Day of Saint Martyr and Conqueror George and the Days of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

War veterans, students of military institutions, representatives of Leningrad military district and the clergy of  Saint-Petersburg Metropolitan of the Russian Orthodox Church were the guests of the event. The programme included songs of war years, poems about the Great Patriotic War and patriotic singing and dancing performances presented by the Ensemble of Singing and Dancing of the Leningrad military district.

In 2008 the St. George sacred procession was held prior the educational cycle. The procession was going along the places where heroic battles to defend Leningrad and to break the siege had taken place. The sacred procession has become a tradition: the annual event is organized with support from the Centre of National Glory and gathers about a hundred people. The praying procession includes war veterans, representatives of search groups, children and youth organizations, as well as believers from Orthodox churches; they are walking along the Sinyavskye Visoty and Nevsky Bridge-head . The service for the dead is conducted at the place of sanguinary battles for Leningrad’s defense in honour of all Soviet soldiers who were killed during the years of the Great Patriotic War.
