The Contest is an efficient tool for improvement of psychological and medical-social support provided for pregnant women who face difficult life circumstances. It helps increase the birth rate and facilitates the prevention of abortions. These are the tasks that are vital for our country”.
Natalia Yakunina, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the All-Russian Programme “Sanctity of Motherhood”, addressed to the participants with the following words: “Since the first days of its existence the involvement into the process of psychological counseling for women who intend to have an abortion has been of primary importance for “Sanctity of Motherhood” Programme. We pay particular attention to systemic support provided to medical experts and psychologists who help a woman to make the right decision. We believe that trust our programme is building in the field of medical community and especially with the Russian Healthcare Ministry is one of the most important achievements in this process. Today it is of primary importance for more and more women to make their firm decision to keep and to raise the baby and for their relatives and the entire society to support the decision of these mothers and to help them as much as possible”.
Oleg Filippov, Deputy Director of Department of Medical Aid for Children and Obstetric Service of the Russian Healthcare Ministry, member of the Jury of the “Sanctity of Motherhood” Contest, read out the greeting letter on behalf of Tatyana Yakovleva, Deputy Healthcare Minister of the Russian Federation, which had the following words: “The All-Russian Contest “Sanctity of Motherhood” is of strategic significance for the prevention of abortions in the Russian Federation. I would like to wish the winners best of luck in their work and success in their difficult professional field”.
When Oleg Filippov, Deputy Director of Department of Medical Aid for Children and Obstetric Service of the Russian Healthcare Ministry, spoke about the importance of the Contest he emphasized: “The pre-abortion counseling is a locomotive for development of our medical institutions towards preservation of lives. Since the very beginning of “Sanctity of Motherhood” programme conversations with pregnant women facing the reproductive choice proved to have very good results. This is the public initiative the Ministry of Healthcare supported. It is undoubtedly very important to acknowledge psychologists and social workers who deal with pre-abortion counseling. I would like to emphasize that the training the Foundation provides for psychologists is very significant. The collaboration with the Ministry of Healthcare related to publishing of manuals for psychologists along with trainings helps achieve the high professional level of specialists working in this field. All the events including the Contest aim to enhance the quality of the pre-abortion counseling. The demographic situation is changing not so fast for us to be able to assess the scale. Currently the underpopulated generation of 1990s has approached the child-bearing age. We are working for the sake of the future and for the sake of changing the way of thinking among people in the Russian society”.
Winners of the “Sanctity of Motherhood” Contest speak about its significance:
Svetlana Masyukova, a psychologist of the women’s consultation clinic in Borovichsk, told about her work and the importance of the Contest: “For the Contest I submitted a video with a story of one woman. She was left alone, unemployed, without a husband and with nowhere to live. It is the person who managed to overcome a difficult life situation and who is telling about it to others. She made the video by herself. Her two-year-old daughter was sitting on her lap. Following our support she chose a profession: she entered a college to become a paramedic. She wants to help people, to work with emergency ambulance. And this Contest helps people learn about such stories. For my work this Contest is important as our activity is developing to more and more regions in Russia”.
Alla Lobanova, a psychologist at “Dar ”perinatal centre in the Altay region: “I gain significant experience participating in the “Sanctity of Motherhood” Contest. Here I can meet other specialists. It is important for us to promote our activity. I visit schools and other learning institutions where I talk about the prevention of abortions, about family relationships, about the ways for people to argue less. People should be responsible. They should think about their life. Though we live far away, I came here with my teenage son who fully supports my good cause and who is proud of his mother having such an important job”.
