“Christians should always keep hope” – Patriarch Kirill

Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill had a meeting with Minister of Foreign Economic Communications and Foreign Affairs of Hungary Peter Szijjarto.

Patriarch Kirill and the Minister discussed the position of Christians at the Near East, relations of Russia and Western countries, as well as the Hungarian family policy.

“We live during the troubling times, but Christians should always keep hope” – he expressed his worries. “Christian churches should work really hard for the sake of peace and fairness”.

Patriarch Kirill emphasized that the Hungarian position related to the Christian moral and morality deserves particular respect. He reminded about the clauses in the Hungarian Constitution 2012. They state that God and Christianity unite the Hungarian people, that marriage is a union between a man and a woman and that a human life begins at the moment a person is conceived.

“We pray for Hungary and its government, we pray for the Hungarian people, we ask God to make us stronger in the matters of protecting what is important for the human existence” – said Patriarch Kirill.

According to Primate of the Russian Church, when he was travelling in Iraq  he was stunned by the Christian traditions of the country. He told about his multiple trips to the Near East: “When I visited Iraq I asked to organize a trip to Mosul and Ninevey Valley which were the points of active Christian presence. I was amazed by what I saw: ancient communities, ancient monasteries which date back to 5th century, plenty of monks, multiple Christian parishes”.

He said that before the war there were 1.5 million Christians in the North of Iraq, today it is 150,000. “I think it is a civilizational tragedy” – he said. His Holiness emphasized once again that the region needs peaceful conflict resolution. Patriarch supports the interaction of Russia and the Western coalition.

“Church is ready to interact with all the political forces which will support Christians in the Near East, in Africa and in all the places where it is getting very dangerous  to be a Christian” – emphasized His Holiness.
